Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Analyst

About the role

The SUE Analyst conducts on‑site investigations to identify, designate, and map underground utilities using advanced geophysical equipment. This field‑based position supports engineering and construction projects by delivering accurate utility data.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct utility designation, verification, and mapping with electromagnetic locators, ground‑penetrating radar, and other geophysical tools.
• Perform field investigations per ASCE 38‑22 standards and integrate SUE data with survey crews.
• Lead vacuum excavation (potholing) when needed and provide real‑time documentation and reports.
• Mentor junior field employees and ensure OSHA and company safety compliance.

Required profile

• High school diploma (technical training or associate’s degree in surveying, GIS, or civil engineering is a plus).
• 5+ years of field experience in utility locating, surveying, or subsurface utility engineering.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Required skills

• Electromagnetic (EM) locating equipment operation.
• Ground‑penetrating radar (GPR) usage.
• GPS data collection and mapping.
• Vacuum excavation (potholing) techniques.
