Substation Physical Engineer (South)

About the role

Leidos is looking for a Substation Physical Engineer to work on projects for electric utilities at voltages from 12kV up to 500kV. The work covers power generation, including renewable energy, and uses knowledge of digital logic design, AC and DC circuits to design substation electrical projects. The position is offered at Mid, Senior and Lead levels, with a hybrid schedule of about 2-3 days in the office (Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston or Orlando) and remote work on other days.

Key responsibilities

• Execute substation physical projects and perform quality control checks on substation physical design projects
• Read and design substation physical drawings such as one-line, three-line, plan-section, foundation and grounding drawings
• Create and check bills of materials for substation physical projects
• Attend site visits at customer locations

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field with 2+ years of related substation physical design experience (6+ years for Senior/Lead level)
• Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection and lighting studies
• Excellent communication skills, ability to meet deadlines under pressure, and willingness to travel to project and client sites
• US citizenship and ability to pass a DOE background check may be required

Required skills

• Knowledge of protection and control design, bus calculations, and WinIGS or CDEGS software (nice to have)
• High level of computer competency and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
