Substation Physical Engineer

About the role

Leidos is looking for a Career Substation Physical Engineer to work on projects for electric utilities at voltages from 12kV up to 500kV. The work covers power generation, including renewable energy, and uses knowledge of digital logic design, AC and DC circuits to design substation electrical projects. The position is hybrid: 1 to 4 days per week in the Framingham, MA office, with the rest of the time remote.

Key responsibilities

• Execute substation physical projects and perform quality control checks on substation physical design projects.
• Read and design substation physical drawings such as one-line, three-line, plan-section, foundation and grounding drawings.
• Create and check bills of materials for substation physical projects.
• Attend site visits at customer locations.
• Work as part of a design team of engineers, designers and CAD technicians, applying client standards to the design.
• Comply with quality control and safe work practices, and keep projects within scope, schedule and budget.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field, with two or more years of related substation physical design experience.
• Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection and lighting studies.
• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, work in a team and as a self-starter, and travel to project and client sites.
• High level of computer competency and excellent communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of protection and control design, bus calculations, and WinIGS or CDEGS (nice to have).
• Engineer Intern (EIT) certification, Professional Engineer (PE) license, or Master's degree in a related field (nice to have).
