Senior Distribution Engineer

About the role

Leidos is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer in the Framingham, MA area for its Power Delivery Services team, which works with utilities and mobile operators on power and telecommunication projects. The role is hybrid: three days per week in the office and two days per week remote. It covers electrical distribution design, quality assurance and client interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of electrical distribution work packages and review engineering design packages with clients
• Perform engineering design and analysis, including programmatic, capital and reliability designs such as third-party attachments, make-ready, overloaded transformers, reconductor, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR and underground systems
• Handle QA/QC tasks and quality reviews of team designs before client submittals
• Analyze scope, maintain schedules and advocate client priorities
• Support construction and provide post-construction reviews
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and field design requirements, and assist with work permits, easements and right-of-way applications
• Collect field data on customer sites and drive hiring decisions for future team members

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience on electric distribution projects in a consulting environment for utilities or at an electric utility
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; additional relevant experience may substitute
• Valid U.S. driver's license; ability to use a personal vehicle and occasional outdoor field work
• Preferred: previous QA/QC experience, cost estimates, BOMs and CIAC calculations, customer-facing history, leadership experience

Required skills

• Proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
• Quality control of engineering design
• Pole loading software (O-Calc, Pole Foreman) and distribution pole analysis
• Preferred: STORMS software and GIS
