Structural Designer

About the role

Amentum's Advanced Solutions Group, which designs, constructs and operates complex R&D facilities for the nuclear, automotive, motorsports, defense and aerospace industries, is seeking a Structural Designer. The role works in a project team to deliver custom designs on schedule and within budget, and candidates may be based in Tullahoma, TN; Farmington Hills, MI or Greenville, SC.

Key responsibilities

• Develop custom structural designs and perform project-level drafting, including wind tunnels, rocket and jet engine test stands, launch facilities and automotive aerospace test facilities
• Lead drafting teams on major projects and provide technical guidance, work plans and review of work in progress
• Provide layout and assembly of complete drawing packages and drawing checking
• Evaluate the functional feasibility of designs and check drawings against specifications and company standards
• Instruct junior drafters, help develop training plans and maintain drafting standards
• May operate CAD equipment and train staff on its use

Required profile

• US citizenship required for government customer requirements and regulations
• 10 to 20 years of experience developing 2D drawings and 3D models of structures (less or more may be considered if a good match)
• Two years of vocational school or college training in drafting or engineering principles plus eight years of experience, or equivalent education and experience
• Demonstrated leadership, organization, planning, communication and problem-solving ability, able to lead a small team of structural designers and drafters
• Pre-employment drug and background test required

Required skills

• Working knowledge of CAE/CAD systems
• Proficiency in 2D drawings and 3D modeling with AutoCAD, Advance Steel, Inventor, Revit or Creo
