Staff Systems Engineer (Remote)

About the role

The Staff Systems Engineer leads a team of engineers who design, build and support The Home Depot's technical infrastructure of hardware and system software. The role is remote, with no travel required, and typically reports to a Systems Engineer Manager or Senior Manager with no direct reports. It involves leading multiple efforts at once, mentoring junior engineers and contributing reusable infrastructure-as-code elements and architectural documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead configuration, debugging and support of IT solutions, and field and corporate rollouts of technology
• Set up system software, hardware and equipment (physical or virtual) and create and optimize technology specifications
• Manage purchase requests for hardware and software and develop test suites for rapid deployment of infrastructure-as-code to production
• Analyze business trends and behavioral data, recommend strategic technology and design infrastructure, network, database, cloud, AI and security architectures
• Create and maintain infrastructure-as-code and AI models, plan projects and develop formal training courses
• Enable product and project teams, support architecture reviews and application support for production software
• Monitor operations, tune performance, run root cause analysis and post-mortems, act as vendor liaison and mentor junior engineers

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
• 3 years of work experience preferred
• Preferred: experience with DB2 for z/OS, incident/problem/change management, scripting and on-call rotation

Required skills

• DB2 administration and SQL (preferred)
• RACF security monitoring and DB2 utilities (preferred)
• Incident, problem and change management
• Preferred: REXX, Endevor, DB2 performance tuning, large tablespace management, Broadcom detector

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $80,000 - $160,000.
