Staff Software Engineer

About the role

As a Staff Software Engineer you will be the technical backbone of Shuttlebase’s evolution engine, turning ambitious AI‑driven product visions into reliable, scalable systems. You will work at the intersection of generative AI, large‑scale data pipelines, and web experimentation, shaping both architecture and culture.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build systems that let AI autonomously reason, experiment, and deploy changes to websites.
• Architect the next‑generation experiment engine to handle millions of daily events with high observability and fault tolerance.
• Develop and evolve backend services using Python (Flask‑RestX), serverless AWS, and data pipelines built on ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, Kinesis, Firehose, and S3.
• Define engineering principles, guide micro‑service and LLM‑driven architecture, and drive technical strategy.
• Mentor senior and mid‑level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and design documentation.
• Collaborate with AI, product, and data‑science teams to translate business needs into resilient infrastructure.
• Prototype new ideas quickly while maintaining performance, security, and reliability standards.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience designing and shipping production systems at scale, preferably in a startup or 0→1 environment.
• Strong expertise in Python, AWS, and JavaScript, with the ability to own both backend and frontend architecture.
• Proven track record designing distributed, event‑driven or micro‑service architectures.
• Previous experience as a technical lead or staff engineer, including mentoring and setting engineering standards.
• Bias toward action, clear documentation, and delivery.
• Deep curiosity about AI, generative models, and self‑evolving systems.
