Staff Software Engineer (AI)

About the role

The Staff Software Engineer leads a team of engineers building and designing products that customers and associates love. The team works together to create, deploy and support production applications, and the engineer helps with product and tool selection, security, resilience, performance tuning and production monitoring. The role contributes reusable code elements and product documentation, and builds the skills of junior engineers. It is virtual, based in Georgia, with no travel required.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test, deploy and maintain software, with a clear understanding of its value, and build test suites to enable rapid production release
• Create reusable code elements, architectural diagrams and other product documentation
• Help select products and tools, and tune security, resilience and performance
• Work with the product team so that user stories are developer-ready, understandable and testable, within agile processes
• Guide junior engineers on modern frameworks and lead technical discussions
• Field questions from product and engineering teams and suggest improvements to team productivity

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Preferred: 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
• Preferred: experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing engineering teams

Required skills

• Front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks
• An object-oriented language (preferably Java)
• Relational or NoSQL databases, cloud computing, CI/CD tools and modern design patterns
• Data modeling, security frameworks for authorization and authentication, and unit, functional, destructive and performance testing
• Version control, debugging and root cause analysis
• High availability, disaster recovery and performance design
• Preferred: AI-driven development, automation and intelligent systems

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $120,000 - $190,000.
