Staff Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

As a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) at Anthropic, you will embed directly with the company's most strategic customers and lead the technical direction of their AI adoption. You decide what should be built and make sure it gets built well, working with customer teams to ship advanced AI applications that solve real-world business problems. The role sits at the frontier of enterprise AI deployments, guiding architecture and build initiatives across workstreams and representing Anthropic to senior technical and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy for a key account or vertical, in partnership with account and product teams.
• Guide technical architecture and design decisions across multiple concurrent workstreams.
• Lead discovery and advisory engagements independently, and lead engagements delivered with partners, setting the architecture and quality bar.
• Review designs and unblock other FDEs on hard technical calls.
• Represent Anthropic to VPs and C-level stakeholders to align on strategy and de-risk delivery.
• Own engagements end to end: scope, sequence, unblock, anticipate security and procurement gates, and deliver production systems the customer can operate.
• Build production applications and agent components with Claude within customer systems, and codify repeatable deployment patterns.
• Build long-term customer relationships and identify new AI deployment opportunities.
• Travel frequently (25%) to customer sites.

Required profile

• Senior technical, customer-facing role such as Forward Deployed Engineer, or as a Tech Lead with consulting or product experience; former technical founders are encouraged to apply.
• Track record as the go-to person on ambiguous technical calls, and of influencing senior technical and business stakeholders.
• Deep experience building and operating production systems, with hands-on experience with LLMs and agents (side projects and prototypes count).
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Background in financial services, healthcare/life sciences or another enterprise vertical is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong programming skills, with Python and ideally one or more additional languages such as TypeScript or Java.
• Experience shipping production applications and everyday use of AI coding tools.
• Experience leading advisory and architecture-review engagements as well as hands-on builds.

• Annual salary of $280,000-$320,000 USD.
