Staff Engineer, Network

About the role

Sila, a battery materials company focused on lithium-ion batteries, is hiring a Staff Engineer, Network. The role suits a seasoned Network Engineer with years of data center experience delivering highly available, resilient networks in multi-office or data center environments. The position is based primarily in Moses Lake, with a physical presence required for equipment management.

Key responsibilities

• Create accurate network diagrams and documentation for designing and planning network communication systems.
• Deploy and manage multiple sites and environments, working toward network redundancy.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot problems and outages, schedule upgrades and collaborate with other Data Systems teams to maximize network performance.
• Design, manage and maintain centralized configuration management of networking gear.
• Build monitoring, supervision and resiliency mechanisms to keep platform health, performance and security under control.
• Develop and support processes that maintain uptime, SLAs, security and availability of critical platform components.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience administering, monitoring and securing firewalls, routers and switches.
• Deep Layer 2 knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to visualize complex solutions and work well in a team.
• Physical demands: pass a respirator fit test, wear PPE including a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses and steel-toe shoes, enter spaces narrower than 3 feet and walk miles a day across the facility.

Required skills

• Knowledge of application transport and network protocols and SD-WAN.
• Infrastructure as code (a plus).
• AWS VPC, Transit Gateway and Direct Connect (a plus).
• High-bandwidth storage networks, MPLS, VPLS or SD-WAN, and virtual switches in cluster environments (a plus).
• Experience supporting information security policies and OT in a manufacturing environment (a plus).

The starting base pay is between $146,000 and $185,000, depending on education, experience and skills; the total rewards package may also include benefits, perks and equity.
