Staff Engineer – Electromechanical Power Electronics

About the role

Shield AI is a venture‑backed defense‑tech company developing autonomous aircraft and simulation systems. The Staff Engineer will design and deliver electro‑mechanical solutions for high‑voltage power electronics packaging, thermal management, and aircraft integration.

Key responsibilities

• Design complex electro‑mechanical solutions for high‑voltage power electronics packaging, electrical interconnects, thermal management, and aircraft integration.
• Execute analysis to ensure survivability in harsh environments, including structural, thermal, vibration, clearance, and PCBA hardening.
• Ensure avionics meet performance, safety, environmental, and EMI/EMC compliance standards such as DO‑160, DO‑254, DO‑178C, MIL‑STD‑810, and MIL‑STD‑461.
• Own design work from concept through implementation, system verification, and validation.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers and PCB designers to guarantee full‑scope board design and packaging meet product demands.

Required profile

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong proficiency with CAD software (NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) for 3D modeling and layout.
• Familiarity with eCAD tools (Altium, Cadence, Allegro) and harness design software (Capital, Zuken).
• Experience working with electrical engineers to define PCB constraints and manage mechanical interfaces.
• Knowledge of PCB layout processes and manufacturing methods.
• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), thermal analysis, and fatigue/lifecycle testing.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, agile development environment with evolving priorities.
