Staff Actuator Design Engineer

About the role

ALSO is seeking a Staff Actuator Design Engineer to lead the design of electromechanical actuators for next‑generation light electric vehicles. You will own the full product lifecycle from concept through production, ensuring high‑performance braking and steering systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test electromechanical actuators and motor‑driven mechanisms for EV platforms.
• Create detailed drawing packages, manufacturing instructions, and 3D models for die‑cast, injection‑molded, sheet‑metal, and metal‑injection parts.
• Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to integrate PCBA, wire harnesses, and embedded software.
• Lead validation with Tier 1/2 suppliers, develop DVP&R plans, and conduct DFMEAs.
• Prototype, fabricate, and test designs in‑house, establishing standards and best practices for the team.

Required profile

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience designing electromechanical actuators for automotive or mobility applications.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and drive technical reviews.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of motors, servo drives, motion sensors, and precision motion mechanisms (gearing, screws, linkages).
• Experience with friction, damping, backlash mitigation and 1D multiphysics simulation (MATLAB/Simulink, Amesim).
• Strong CAD skills (Catia V5/V6) and CAE tools (Ansys, Abaqus, HyperWorks).
• Expertise in GD&T, tolerance stack‑up analysis, material properties, heat treatment, statics and dynamics.
• Programming proficiency in Python, C, and C++ for low‑level driver development.
