Staff Accountant 1 – Entry Level

About the role

The Staff Accountant 1 position supports the Payroll section of LSU’s Office of Accounting Services. It is an entry‑level, non‑supervisory role focused on processing payroll and related personnel actions for graduate assistants, faculty, and professional staff across multiple LSU campuses.

Key responsibilities

• Process monthly payroll for teaching and research graduate assistants and academic/professional employees, including retroactive calculations and error resolution (30%).
• Perform manual payroll calculations for special personnel actions, verify termination leave, and prepare bank request sheets and journal entries for overpayment recovery (25%).
• Provide payroll support and compliance assistance, communicating with HR offices, the Graduate School, and departments, and ensuring tax‑ treaty compliance for non‑resident employees (20%).
• Assist with loading taxable and non‑taxable fringe benefits into Workday and generate related tax reports (10%).

Required profile

• Basic knowledge of LSU Workday systems (HCM, Payroll, FIN).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established payroll procedures.
• Excellent written communication skills for interacting with internal stakeholders.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.
