SSIU Laboratory Technician II

About the role

Ceva is hiring a Laboratory Technician II for its Scientific Support and Investigation Unit (SSIU) in Lenexa, Kansas. The role applies general microbiology and molecular biology methods to ensure timely processing, identification and results of clinical samples, and provides laboratory and administrative support to the SSIU team.

Key responsibilities

• Process clinical samples promptly and prepare, package and ship sampling supplies and isolates according to SOPs
• Maintain laboratory organization, cleaning schedules, reagent and freezer inventories, and accurate bench records
• Handle hazardous chemicals and biological materials with appropriate PPE, and follow safety and quality initiatives
• Bacteriology: isolate and identify bacterial pathogens from avian, porcine and other sources using classical methods, with good aseptic technique
• Virology: work in a biosafety cabinet, count cells, run adherent and suspension cell cultures, and expand viral isolates, with aseptic technique and inventory tracking
• Molecular: process samples, extract DNA, and run conventional and real-time PCR and Next Generation Sequencing workflows
• Prepare reports for customers, review test requests and results for errors, and assist in animal trials and cross-training with other teams

Required profile

• MS in Virology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biology or equivalent preferred; or BA/BS in a science-related field with 1-3 years of relevant experience in a virology, microbiology or molecular laboratory or diagnostic setting
• Intermediate knowledge of microbiology, classical bacteriology and/or viral culture methods, and fundamental knowledge of molecular biology techniques
• Able to read, write and communicate in English; up to 5% business travel required
