SSIU Laboratory Technician I

About the role

CEVA is hiring a Laboratory Technician I for its SSIU team in Lenexa, Kansas. The role applies general microbiology and molecular methods to process clinical samples quickly and provide laboratory and administrative support to the team. It involves testing for internal and external customers and taking part in other projects as assigned.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure timely specimen processing and keep laboratory organization, reagent and freezer inventories, supplies and equipment maintained
• Prepare media or reagents and keep preparation records; maintain accurate bench records following quality assurance guidelines
• Perform classical bacteriology methods on submitted samples to isolate and identify bacterial pathogens from avian, porcine and other sources, using good aseptic technique
• Apply basic molecular methods, including conventional and real-time PCR, and perform routine sample preparation and DNA extractions
• Perform fecal flotation tests for parasite (OPG) testing
• Enter data into the LIMS and provide cross-disciplinary support to the SID, R&D and Sales & Marketing teams, including assisting in animal trials or studies

Required profile

• BA/BS in a science-related field with at least one year of relevant experience in a diagnostic or microbiology laboratory
• Basic knowledge of microbiology, classical bacteriology culture methods and molecular biology techniques
• Able to read, write and communicate in English
• Physical demands include bending 20%, standing 10%, lifting up to 30 lbs and visual inspection 75%; exposure to zoonotic agents is probable
• Up to 5% of the time may be spent on business travel
