Sr. Manager - Software Systems Engineering

About the role

Airbus U.S. is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Senior Manager to lead the Software Systems Engineering team in designing, analyzing, and testing new satellite and aerospace systems. The role is fully remote with preferred locations in Arlington, VA; Denver, CO; or Merritt Island, FL.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Software Systems Engineering team through multiple program phases, including proposal, design, verification, delivery, and on‑orbit support.
• Generate software design architecture requirement documents, manage requirements traceability, and develop use cases.
• Plan and execute software and system‑level verification, troubleshoot flight hardware and test anomalies.
• Develop and evolve software systems engineering tools, processes, and methods for Airbus U.S.
• Lead cross‑functional teams in planning, coordination, and task execution, reporting to Program Managers.
• Perform systems engineering activities to maintain and evolve Airbus spacecraft products and support development roadmaps.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a government security clearance (Secret or above preferred).
• Minimum 20 years of experience (or 18 years with a master’s) in aerospace hardware and software systems, from concept through operations.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering results in fast‑moving technical environments.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and occasional international travel.

Required skills

• Expertise in space mission architectures, launch, flight operations, and mission CONOPS.
• System architecture design, software specification development, functional specification, and verification planning.
• Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS or similar.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and related tools.
• Strong communication skills across multiple organizational levels.
