About the role
Under the direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the teacher provides direct instruction and support to students with disabilities, collaborating with general education teachers.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
- Monitor and evaluate student outcomes and assist in developing Individual Education Programs (IEP).
- Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and other staff.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in special education from an accredited institution.
- Eligibility for Maryland teacher licensure and ability to obtain special education certification.
- Student teaching experience in special education or two years of relevant teaching experience.
Required skills
- Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, IEP process, IDEA, NCLB, and related policies.
- Ability to adapt instructional programs, collect data, and apply differentiated instruction.
- Strong communication skills for working with students, teachers, and parents.
