Space Flight Dynamics Docking Engineer

About the role

Amentum, NASA's largest engineering solutions provider, is recruiting a Space Flight Dynamics Docking Engineer for the JETSII contract. The engineer performs analysis, verification and testing of docking systems used in NASA's human spaceflight programs, including Orion, the Human Landing Systems, the International Space Station and others. The work is generally done in an office environment.

Key responsibilities

• Model and simulate nonlinear contact dynamics using commercial and in-house code, typically in the NASA-developed Trick Simulation Environment (C/C++) or MSC Adams
• Understand and model the dynamics of complex, multi-body mechanical systems
• Perform structural loads and dynamics analysis
• Verify mechanical system requirements through test and analysis
• Run simulation-based analysis using Monte-Carlo methods
• Post-process, reduce and visualize data, and build additional data processing tools, typically in Python
• Perform other duties as required

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field; a master's degree is preferred
• Experience in the field or a related area
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to complete a U.S. government background investigation; proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency may be required

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB and/or C++
• Familiarity with desktop software and MS Office
• Preferred: experience with hardware-in-the-loop simulation, software for modeling, analysis and data acquisition, the Trick Simulation Environment, Linux command line, the International Docking System Standard (IDSS) and MSC ADAMS
