Software Engineer

About the role

Kyocera-AVX is hiring a Software Engineer in Erie to design, develop and maintain software solutions for its Equipment Engineering group. The work is mostly independent or under the general supervision of the Equipment Engineering Manager and is reviewed during and after completion. Industrial controls knowledge is required.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out full-lifecycle software development and write well-designed, testable and maintainable code.
• Produce specifications and assess operational feasibility; integrate software components into a fully functional system.
• Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures, and document and maintain software functionality.
• Tailor and deploy software tools, processes and metrics, and expand existing software to meet changing needs.
• Focus on fault-tolerant programming and create multi-platform versions of the software package.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and comply with project plans and industry standards.

Required profile

• BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• Programming experience, preferably C# or Java, and PLC; hands-on experience designing interactive and multi-threaded I/O applications.
• Ability to develop requirements by interviewing internal customers and to document them.
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware and basic electrical circuits.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and knowledge of software development life cycle processes.
• Ability to learn new technologies and support existing software systems quickly, and to handle several projects at once.

Required skills

• Strong object-oriented programming and design skills.
• Very good knowledge of C#, including common coding conventions.
• Ability to develop entity relationship data models and implement them in a relational database.
• Experience with CAD programs such as AutoCAD or SolidEdge is a plus.
