Software Engineer Intern, Summer 2027 (U.S.)

About the role

Atlassian is recruiting Software Engineer interns for its 2027 summer program, a 12-week paid internship (May/June to August/September 2027) working out of Seattle, Washington or San Francisco, California. The internship is hybrid and requires being able to work out of one of those cities. It is not eligible for F1 or J1 students and is not available for any work sponsorship.

From day one, interns join the development team and make code changes that directly affect the products, reporting to Senior Engineers. They design and code new features that ship into the products, while learning full-lifecycle product development. Engineering is focused on helping customers move to the cloud while investing in core products such as Jira, Confluence, Trello and Bitbucket.

Required profile

• Able to commit to a 12-week full-time (40 hours per week) program during Summer 2027.
• Currently enrolled full-time in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Computer Science or a related technical field, returning to the program after the internship and graduating by August 2028.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java, Python, Golang, TypeScript or another object-oriented language, through coursework or personal projects.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms and their practical application in problem solving.

Preferred qualifications

• Software engineering experience through internships, work experience, personal projects, open-source contributions or technical publications.
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts, machine learning frameworks or emerging AI technologies (MCP, agentic AI).
• Basic understanding of common design patterns and their use in software architecture.

What we offer

• Paid 12-week internship with base pay depending on the pay zone: Zone A $59-$67 per hour, Zone B $54-$60 per hour, Zone C $49-$56 per hour; the zone depends on the location and should be confirmed with the recruiter.
