Software Engineer III – Backend (Java, Spring Boot, Kafka)

About the role

Walmart Global Tech is seeking a Backend Software Engineer III to join its fast‑growing team in Bentonville. You will design, build, and maintain large‑scale Java micro‑services that power Walmart’s retail and e‑commerce platforms, ensuring high performance and scalability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and ship high‑quality Java applications using Spring Boot and Kafka.
• Participate in code reviews, contribute to best‑practice guidelines, and improve development processes.
• Debug and resolve production issues to maintain seamless user experiences.
• Document designs, implementations, and technical decisions.
• Collaborate with product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver features on schedule.
• Research and propose innovative solutions for complex mobile and data‑intensive challenges.

Required profile

• Proven experience building Java‑based backend systems and delivering scalable data‑processing applications.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and cloud‑native development.
• Solid grasp of computer‑science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Git, Maven, and Jenkins.
• Ability to write modular, testable code and create unit, functional, and integration tests.
