Software Engineer II – Cloud Engineering

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Software Engineer II to join its Cloud Engineering team in Holladay, Utah. This hands‑on role focuses on building, operating, and automating cloud platforms at scale while deepening expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure‑as‑Code.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform.
• Contribute to the provisioning and operation of Kubernetes platforms (Amazon EKS, KOPS).
• Support Linux‑based systems, primarily Ubuntu, across cloud environments.
• Collaborate on secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architecture designs.
• Write and maintain automation and tooling in Python or Go.
• Assist with incident troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and platform stability improvements.
• Apply basic networking concepts such as VPCs, subnets, routing, load balancing, and security groups.
• Partner with SRE, Security, and Application teams to deliver platform capabilities.
• Follow engineering best practices including code reviews, documentation, testing, and operational readiness.

Required profile

• 2–4 years of experience in software or cloud engineering.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS services (EC2, VPC, IAM, EKS or similar).
• Practical experience using Terraform (modules, state, deployments).
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS, KOPS, or equivalent).
• Strong fundamentals in Linux administration (Ubuntu preferred).
• Understanding of basic networking concepts (VPCs, CIDR, subnets, security groups, routing, DNS, load balancing).
• Programming experience in Python or Go (or strong proficiency in at least one).
• Experience with Git‑based workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues logically and communicate clearly across teams.
