AI Engineer

About the role

Joint Strategic Technologies (JST) is building a new AI‑powered product from scratch. As an AI Engineer you will work across the full stack—cloud infrastructure, backend services, data pipelines, and user interfaces—to turn product ideas into secure, maintainable software. This full‑time remote position is ideal for a recent master’s or doctoral graduate with strong engineering fundamentals who wants broad product ownership.

Key responsibilities

• Develop production‑ready software using advanced AI coding tools, covering cloud infrastructure, APIs, data pipelines, web applications, and user‑facing experiences.
• Design agentic systems that plan work, use tools, coordinate workflows, retain context, and automate repeatable tasks.
• Implement controls for AI reliability, including human approval points, observability, failure handling, and cost/latency measurement.
• Own vertical slices of the product from design through deployment and support, guided by the Head of AI Engineering.

Required profile

• Recently completed or soon‑to‑complete master’s or doctoral degree in computer science, AI, machine learning, software engineering, data science, robotics, HCI, or a related field.
• Strong programming fundamentals with practical experience in Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
• Solid understanding of APIs, databases, version control, testing, debugging, and cloud or distributed application concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous problems into working projects through academic, research, open‑source, or startup work.
