Software Engineer – FAA Weather Team

About the role

Spectrum Software Technology (SST) is looking for a Software Engineer to join its FAA weather team at the William J. Hughes Technical Center. The role focuses on maintaining infrastructure stability, integrating new hardware sensors, and optimizing database and server performance.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and modify existing code supporting operational infrastructure and develop automation scripts.
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot various server types for test and evaluation programming.
• Manage MariaDB databases, execute schema changes, and update table structures.
• Develop and modify data communication code for newly onboarded sensors, supporting both polled and automatic transmission.
• Identify and resolve system performance issues, including network latency, I/O bottlenecks, and resource utilization.
• Diagnose and fix software and Linux‑based system issues across the operational environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 6+ years IT experience, or Master’s degree with 4+ years experience.
• U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Working knowledge of C or C++.
• Experience with MariaDB/MySQL and SQL schema management.
• Proficiency with Linux operating systems.
• Server installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Network latency and I/O bottleneck analysis.
