Software Engineer - Data Platform (Remote, Austin Hub)

About the role

R1 is a healthcare revenue cycle company, and R37 is its AI innovation lab building the Phare OS platform, which uses AI and automation to improve pre-bill workflows such as authorization, utilization management, documentation and coding. As Software Engineer - Data Platform, you will help build the data foundation of the PhareOS stack, including backend schemas and APIs that power the AI engine and user-facing applications. The role is remote, with a preference for sitting at the Austin, TX hub.

Key responsibilities

• Design and operate large-scale data pipelines, backend services and APIs supporting AI-powered healthcare applications
• Build scalable data infrastructure using modern data engineering technologies, streaming platforms and cloud-native architectures
• Partner with AI, machine learning and product teams to deliver reliable data foundations for internal models and customer-facing products
• Drive observability, reliability and operational excellence through monitoring, automation and proactive system management
• Take ownership of critical production systems, influence architecture decisions and shape the future of the data platform

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years with high-throughput data pipelines and distributed data systems
• Experience designing API integrations and distributed systems interacting with external partners and enterprise applications
• Experience operating business-critical systems and on-call support rotations
• Healthcare or RCM experience preferred

Required skills

• Scala and SQL, with production-grade data platforms
• Microservices, APIs and ETL pipelines in Python, Java or Go
• Databricks, Apache Spark, Airflow, Kafka or similar data orchestration and streaming tools
• Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes

What we offer

• Base pay of $105,000-$202,500 depending on level (L2 $120k-$150k, L3 $140k-$220k, Senior $140k-$255k, Staff $140k-$300k)
