Software Engineer – Credit (Backend)

About the role

Ramp’s Credit Engineering team builds end‑to‑end systems that manage credit lifecycles for businesses, influencing over $100 billion in annual payment volume. As a backend engineer you will own the technical roadmap for underwriting, limit management, portfolio optimization, and agentic workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Architect scalable, stateful systems for automated limit management and portfolio optimization.
• Design and build real‑time decisioning systems that span the entire credit lifecycle.
• Develop high‑volume, low‑latency risk controls to support new products, customer segments, and geographies.
• Partner closely with analysts, data scientists, and product teams to translate risk strategies into reliable software.

Required profile

• 2+ years of backend engineering experience.
• High ownership mentality and ability to work with non‑engineering partners (Risk Strategy, Ops, Sales).
• Obsessed with correctness, comfortable with ambiguity, and passionate about distributed systems and financial strategy.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python or a comparable backend language.
• Experience with distributed systems and asynchronous frameworks.
• Ability to convert abstract business problems into robust data models and technical specifications.
