Software Engineer – Azure Database for PostgreSQL

About the role

Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is expanding its PostgreSQL service and is looking for a Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and iterate well‑scoped features. You will work closely with senior engineers, apply data‑driven experimentation, and help improve the overall customer experience of a cloud‑native database platform.

Key responsibilities

• Write secure, maintainable, and reusable code following modern design principles.
• Implement features and services with guidance, adhering to coding standards and patterns.
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to clarify requirements and iterate on designs.
• Participate in code reviews to uphold quality and reliability.
• Continuously learn emerging technologies and apply solutions that enhance performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and take part in on‑call rotations to monitor system health and initiate recovery actions.

Required profile

• Willingness to work under guidance from senior engineers and learn from feedback.
• Readiness to take accountability for services as a DRI.
• Availability to participate in on‑call rotations and respond to system incidents.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and cloud database technologies.
• Understanding of secure coding practices.
