Software Engineer – AI‑first Automation

About the role

Proofpoint is looking for a Software Engineer who embraces an AI‑first mindset to improve engineering efficiency and system reliability. You will work on Linux‑based environments, develop automation tools, and integrate AI agents into daily development workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions that boost engineering productivity.
• Troubleshoot issues, automate workflows, and support development and operational needs in Linux environments.
• Build tools and scripts using Perl, Python, or Bash to automate repetitive tasks.
• Leverage Claude Code and AI agents to streamline development, improve code quality, and reduce manual effort.
• Identify low‑value tasks and create AI‑powered or scripted solutions to automate them.
• Collaborate with team members to enhance systems, processes, and developer experiences.
• Challenge existing approaches and propose practical improvements for scalability and reliability.
• Continuously learn and adopt new tools, technologies, and best practices.

Required profile

• Solid experience with Linux and at least one scripting language (Perl, Python, or Bash).
• Hands‑on experience with Claude Code and deploying AI agents for automation.
• Strong interest in applying AI‑first thinking to software development.
• Minimum 2 years of software development experience.
• BS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Curious, eager to learn, and motivated to continuously improve systems and processes.
