Social Worker

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pediatrics is seeking a full‑time Social Worker to support patients and families throughout hospitalization and after discharge. The role involves providing psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, and coordinated care planning within a pediatric medical setting.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct interviews with patients, families, and alleged child maltreatment victims to gather psychosocial and medical information.
• Provide crisis intervention and support families in understanding the impact of medical diagnoses on lifestyle.
• Perform psychosocial assessments to identify emotional, social, and environmental needs.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Participate in 24‑hour on‑call rotation for child abuse/neglect consultations.
• Complete forensic and specialized interviews, write detailed reports, and ensure timely submission.
• Make referrals to community resources and act as a patient advocate.
• Maintain accurate records, statistics, and stay current on relevant medical and legal issues.

Required profile

• Experience conducting psychosocial assessments and crisis interventions in a healthcare environment.
• Ability to collaborate with medical, legal, and social service teams.
• Willingness to participate in on‑call rotation and handle time‑sensitive cases.
• Strong communication skills for interviewing families and presenting findings.
