Social Studies Teacher (Grades 9-12)

About the role

Exploration High School is seeking a passionate Social Studies teacher for grades 9‑12. The position is full‑time, ten‑month, and part of a competency‑based, project‑based learning environment where teachers act as designers, coaches, and co‑learners.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver high‑quality project‑based learning (HQPBL) units that align with Minnesota graduation requirements.
• Guide students in authentic investigations, producing public‑facing products such as exhibitions, campaigns, documentaries, and community forums.
• Teach civic skills through real‑world civic action, local government partnerships, and student‑driven inquiry.
• Assess student progress using a competency‑based model focused on growth, revision, and demonstrated proficiency.
• Collaborate with an instructional team and co‑design interdisciplinary projects with science and ELA colleagues.
• Perform additional duties that support students, families, and the school mission.

Required profile

• Licensed (or eligible for a Minnesota Tier license) to teach Social Studies for grades 9‑12.
• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
• Experience with, or strong interest in, project‑based learning, inquiry, and culturally responsive teaching.
• Ability to facilitate critical conversations and examine diverse perspectives with evidence and empathy.
• Commitment to equity, curiosity, integrity, and cultural competence.
