Shop Service Technician I - Utilities

About the role

The Shop Service Technician I works in a utilities shop environment, performing safe diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on a variety of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment. The role emphasizes adherence to safety policies, proper use of personal protective equipment, and continuous improvement of work methods.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all assigned work safely, following safety, environmental and contamination control policies.
• Attend and complete required technician training classes.
• Maintain a complete set of tools needed to diagnose, disassemble and re‑assemble components to manufacturer specifications.
• Diagnose and repair customer or company owned equipment, including mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Inspect components to maximize parts reuse and control repair costs.
• Document repairs and repair times using the designated software.
• Monitor job expenses against estimates and alert supervisors to any overruns.
• Maintain a clean, orderly work area and suggest improvements to processes and safety standards.
• Train, mentor and occasionally act as a temporary supervisor for the team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
