Sheetmetal Worker - Seasonal Antarctic Support Contract

About the role

Amentum is hiring a seasonal Sheetmetal Worker for the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC), which supports the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program. The worker performs sheetmetal fabrication, assembly and installation on maintenance or construction projects, with tasking driven by the ASC schedule. The position involves working outdoors in extreme cold and may require deployment to remote research support facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform sheetmetal fabrication, assembly and installation on maintenance and construction projects
• Layout and fabricate ductwork and building components using mechanical fasteners or welding
• Carry out sheetmetal fabrication for heating and ventilation systems using forming tools and equipment
• Assist with insulation projects and help other trades or departments when needed
• Respond to emergency service calls during and outside normal hours
• Document hours worked, tasking, materials and processes accurately
• Follow job plans, schematics, blueprints, vendor manuals and specifications, and follow or revise SOPs
• Identify hazards, participate in the Work Center Safety Program and comply with ESH, waste management and quality assurance requirements
• Take part in community programs such as house-mouse, daisy-picking, galley clean-up and recycling

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least four years of documented experience in all phases of sheetmetal fabrication and assembly
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and US citizenship (for facility credentials)
• Valid US driver's license
• Ability to lift and move heavy items, climb in and out of equipment, crawl and work outdoors in extreme cold

Required skills

• Reading and interpreting design drawings, specifications and diagrams
• Prior computer experience and willingness to learn labor, inventory and maintenance tracking applications
• Preferred: Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association license or equivalent, and commercial or industrial experience
