Service Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Service Manager for its Rochester #4 store. The manager keeps the store running smoothly by supervising and coordinating employees across all departments so customers receive prompt, friendly service. The role involves leading by example, managing schedules, handling customer issues, overseeing merchandising and compliance, and stepping in wherever the store needs help. It is an hourly position.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and greet customers by name
• Maintain positive employee relations and a culture of teamwork and accountability
• Plan and adjust work schedules, assign duties and follow up on completion
• Supervise employees across the store in the Department Manager's absence and perform work at all job levels
• Train workers in store policies, department procedures and job duties, and evaluate employee performance
• Enforce safety procedures, fill out customer accident forms and first reports of injury
• Order merchandise, verify deliveries, check quality and report discrepancies
• Set up ad and promotional displays and ensure product quality and quantities
• Manage managerial data such as sales, inventory and display reports, and review personnel records
• Handle cash registers, Western Union, money orders and hunting and fishing license transactions
• Recommend cost-reduction programs and shelf allocations, and handle confidential information with discretion
• Follow Hy-Vee policies, report to work on time, and complete a pre-employment drug screen

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required
• Two or more years of similar or related work experience preferred
• Ability to stand and walk frequently during a shift, and to use sharp knives and blades safely where applicable
• Exposure to heat and burn hazards and to dust, noise and temperature extremes in a fast-paced retail environment

Required skills

• Arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages
• Interpreting instructions and following technical manuals
• Interviewing and guiding people, and leading and developing a team

The anticipated hourly starting wage is $16.00 to $20.00 depending on experience. The position reports to the Store Director, Store Manager and Assistant Managers, and has no direct reports other than those designated by the Store Director.
