Senior Thermofluids Systems Engineer, Power Conversion

About the role

Radiant, a startup developing portable nuclear microreactors, is looking for a Senior Thermofluids Systems Engineer to lead system‑level thermodynamic modeling of its power‑conversion architecture. The role bridges fluid‑system design, turbomachinery, and control‑systems engineering to deliver reliable electricity from nuclear heat.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain system‑level thermodynamic performance models for power conversion, covering design, off‑design, startup, shutdown, transients and off‑nominal conditions.
• Define and communicate interface requirements and boundary conditions (pressures, temperatures, flow rates, control signals) for fluid components, pressure equipment, turbomachinery and power electronics.
• Collaborate with hardware and subsystem engineers to evaluate architectural changes, balancing performance, cost, weight, schedule and safety.
• Provide plant‑level dynamic models and operating envelopes to the control‑systems team for reactor control scheme development.
• Build and update performance models using MATLAB, Python or Simulink.
• Lead root‑cause analysis of cycle performance anomalies and correlate test data with system models.
• Conduct trade studies and system‑level risk analyses (FMEA) for fluid subsystems and cycle performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or a related engineering discipline.
• Proven experience in thermofluid system modeling and power‑conversion engineering.
• Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
