Senior Packaging Engineer - Games

About the role

Mattel is looking for a creative Senior Packaging Engineer to join its team of packaging professionals, working on the Games portfolio, which includes brands such as UNO, Scrabble, Magic 8 Ball and Pictionary. The role is hands-on in the package design process, not just production, and calls for someone who can drive the packaging process with strong project management and creative skills, collaborating with Packaging Design, Marketing, Product Design, Project Managers and overseas counterparts.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop structural packaging solutions for worldwide product launches, using knowledge of technology, materials and competitive analysis.
• Create innovative structures and design 3D structures that protect complex products.
• Originate package concepts for cost estimates, offering alternative packaging solutions and cost savings.
• Work on many projects at once while meeting packaging and business schedules.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, create standard engineering drawings and act as a liaison and creative engineering partner with the China team.
• Take part in team, department and management meetings, present ideas and solutions to management and peers, and support toy fair requirements throughout the year.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of packaging or industrial design experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field.
• Knowledge of package manufacturing processes and ability to generate detailed packaging specifications.
• Experience working in teams under tight deadlines and building strong relationships.
• Ability to communicate ideas visually and verbally to cross-functional teams and to speak up in upper-management meetings.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Artios CAD and 3D modeling (e.g., SolidWorks).
• Ability to create Mattel-standard engineering drawings.
• Experience with single-layer and multi-layer paper materials, as well as plastics and pulp.
