Senior Substation Relay + Controls Engineer

About the role

ISG is seeking a Senior Substation Relay + Controls Engineer to lead the design and delivery of protection and control systems for high-voltage transmission and distribution substations supporting a longstanding client, FirstEnergy. The engineer develops and reviews one-line and three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, equipment lists and other design deliverables, acts as a technical resource for clients and project teams, solves complex engineering challenges, mentors junior staff and helps deliver safe, reliable and compliant designs.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and compliant designs, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs and equipment lists for high-voltage substations
• Research, understand, assist with and order the materials needed for each design
• Verify compliance with client, utility and regulatory standards (IEEE, NESC)
• Address complex technical challenges such as scheme optimization and troubleshooting design issues
• Support project schedules to meet milestones and deliverables
• Work with substation physical, civil and structural teams and external stakeholders (clients, utilities)
• Review and approve drawings, calculations and technical reports
• Mentor junior engineers and designers, conduct training and share best practices
• Serve as the main technical point of contact for clients and recommend process improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
• 8+ years of consulting or substation engineering and design experience
• Ohio PE license preferred; may be working toward certification
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel for site visits, design reviews and client meetings
