Senior Studio Engineer

About the role

The Studio Engineer's main responsibility is to creatively solve design issues affecting the aesthetics and/or manufacturing goals of products during Phase 0, 1 and 2 of the Adient PLUS process. The goal is to develop solutions in the design-development phase so that designs and Class A surfaces created by Industrial Design are feasible and meet the expectations of internal and OEM Design Studios. The engineer works in CAD (mainly CATIA V5/V6) with engineering data from Adient/OEM, alongside the Industrial Designer, and culminates in a Pre-Surface Design Review (PSDR).

Key responsibilities

• Phase 0: Create most of the CAD data representing a new Adient process/product, working closely with the Industrial Designer, ADV representative and Product Development on feasibility and prototype deliverables (e.g., SLA vs. fiberglass)
• Handle prototype parts and demonstrators, and coordinate work targets with CS, Trim, Foam, S&M, SMEs and automation teams
• Phase 1 and 2: Gather data from OEM, work with the Studio Manager on the Phase 1 QBOM/EBOM, and flag gaps between OEM design desires and the EBOM using an approved issues list
• Create craftsmanship and packaging criteria in the business unit's layout drawing
• Invite SDT to the PSDR, confirm whether Class A surfacing can begin, and send the PSDR to the Studio Engineering Lead to start Class-A surfacing
• Maintain project issue lists requiring SDT resolution and run PSDRs on time according to program timing

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related field, or an Associate/technical degree with four years of automotive experience
• Six years of experience in automotive design
• Reports to the Studio Manager

Required skills

• Proficiency in an Adient-approved CAD/PC system (CATIA V5/V6 mentioned)
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to create feasibility sections with little or no data (experience a plus)
