Senior Structural Engineer

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Senior Structural Engineer who works under minimal supervision on moderate to complex structures. The engineer performs modeling, analysis, design and checking, prepares technical documents, verifies calculations and drawings, and liaises with internal and external customers from quotation through final design and testing.

Key responsibilities

• Perform design development, analysis and review tasks independently, and be responsible for complete designs, analyses or design reviews.
• Generate complete design specifications for the most complex projects and coordinate with engineering, logistics, financial and program management disciplines.
• Maintain project filing systems and databases, and develop technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
• Liaise with customers and technical working groups, conduct site visits and experimental investigations, and propose solutions and alternatives.
• Verify compliance with engineering documentation standards and test procedures, and prepare and present technical papers and engineering studies.
• Support technical proposals and may organize and supervise a team for a project, contract or job, with responsibility for cost, schedule, technical and employee performance.

Required profile

• US citizen; dual citizenship may be considered.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis (or equivalent).
• At least 10 years of job-related experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer in a home state.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to pass and maintain a security clearance and possible travel.
• Preferred: DOE/DOD project design experience, professional engineering registration, master's degree in structural engineering, government or nuclear experience, and knowledge of AISC 341, ACI 349, AISC N690, ASCE 43, DOE-STD-1020 and seismic response spectrum analysis.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of STAAD.Pro modeling, analysis, design and post-processing.
• Proficiency in Mathcad, Excel and Word.
• Knowledge of calculation preparation and checking, and of drawing production and checking.
