Senior Software Engineer (Remote)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for a fully remote position. The engineer independently develops and regularly redesigns or refactors products to meet customers' and associates' needs, working in a team of engineers of all experience levels. The role may involve product and tool selection, security, resilience, performance tuning, production monitoring and mentoring junior engineers. It reports to a Software Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager and requires no travel.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test, deploy and maintain software, with a clear understanding of its value, and build functional and destructive test suites
• Learn through successful and failed experiments and seek growth through formal and informal channels
• Work in agile processes with the product team so that user stories are valuable, developer-ready, easy to understand and testable
• Communicate clearly with different audiences and adapt to changing situations
• Mentor junior engineers on modern software development frameworks and lead technical discussions

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Preferred: 2-4 years of relevant experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
• Preferred: experience leading small engineering teams or technical workstreams, and a background in large enterprise organizations with complex, distributed systems

Required skills

• Preferred: hands-on experience with Java, Kafka, Pub/Sub, RESTful APIs, microservices and Elasticsearch
• Preferred: Google Cloud Platform, including BigQuery and cloud-native data solutions
• Preferred: event-driven architectures, real-time data processing and high-throughput transaction platforms

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $80,000 - $180,000.
