Senior Software Engineer - Platform Reliability Engineering (Remote)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Senior Software Reliability Engineer on its Platform Reliability Engineering team, working remotely. You will ensure the resilience, performance and security of the enterprise Cloud Platform, working with partner Reliability Engineering and Enablement teams. You will act as a subject matter expert in reliability principles and practices, removing toil through automation, mentoring junior engineers, leading incident triage and root cause analysis, and driving no-repeat resolutions through blameless postmortems and problem management.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test, deploy and maintain software, building functional and destructive test suites to enable rapid production release
• Lead incident triage, root cause analysis and problem management, and enforce Service Level Objectives (SLOs)
• Work in agile teams, collaborate with product teams so user stories are valuable, testable and developer-ready, and communicate clearly across audiences
• Mentor junior engineers on modern software development frameworks and lead technical discussions

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Preferred: 4+ years of experience in a related engineering field or reliability engineering
• Preferred: experience with ITIL processes (Change, Incident, Problem Management) and with AI tooling to reduce MTTR metrics
• Preferred: experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible), Google Cloud Platform, observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry), Kubernetes/GKE, and destructive testing
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field

Required skills

• Scripting and programming languages such as Bash, Python, Go, TypeScript, Java, and YAML, JSON, HCL
• SLOs and core SRE principles and practices
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including operational status reporting and documentation

No travel required. The pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents is $90,000 - $170,000.
