Senior Software Engineer - Payroll & AI

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Senior Software Engineer focused on payroll and AI. The engineer develops, tests, deploys and maintains software products, works in a team of engineers of all experience levels, and may take part in product and tool selection, security, performance tuning and production monitoring, as well as mentoring less experienced engineers. The position reports to a Software Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager and has no direct reports.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test, deploy and maintain software with a clear understanding of its value, taking on new challenges with urgency and enthusiasm
• Build test suites (functional, destructive, etc.) to support rapid deployment of code to production
• Learn through successful and failed experiments, using formal and informal development channels
• Work in agile teams, helping the Product Team make user stories valuable, developer-ready and testable
• Communicate clearly with different audiences and adapt to changing situations
• Mentor junior engineers on modern software development frameworks and lead technical discussions

Required profile

• At least 2-4 years of relevant work experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
• Legally permitted to work in the United States
• Preferred: experience with Workday Payroll or similar payroll/HCM platforms, and with AI, automation or intelligent workflow solutions

Required skills

• Front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks
• An object-oriented programming language (preferably Java)
• Relational or NoSQL databases, cloud computing, CI/CD tools and modern design patterns
• Security frameworks for user and service authorization and authentication
• Unit, functional, destructive and performance testing, debugging and root cause analysis
• Version control systems

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $120,000 - $145,000. No travel required.
