Senior Software Engineer - News Engineering (Elasticsearch)

About the role

LSEG's News Engineering group is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help evolve its News platform, delivering enriched breaking news to customers worldwide in sub-second time. The role suits engineers who thrive as individual contributors and can lead a scrum team, with paths toward technical leadership, architecture, reliability or applied machine learning for news analytics.

Key responsibilities

• Build and evolve services, mainly in Java and Python, with a focus on performance, observability and continuous improvement in a cloud-native environment
• Own the design and delivery of critical services, from architecture decisions through to production support
• Collaborate in a scrum team to craft solutions and deliver new features
• Automate deployment, upgrades and maintenance using modern DevOps techniques
• Take part in an on-call rotation focused on sustainability, automation and preventing repeat incidents

Required profile

• Solid experience with Java and Python on Linux and real-time systems
• Practical experience with IP-based protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, HTTPS)
• Familiarity with unit testing and test-driven development
• Understanding of search technology such as Elasticsearch
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and container orchestration
• Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and communicate clearly
• Bonus: hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes or Terraform, GitHub Copilot, and NewsMLG2 or similar standards

What we offer

• Anticipated base salary of $113,900 - $189,900, depending on location, with eligibility for an annual incentive plan
