Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Moody's is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Charlotte, United States, within its Analytical Tools team. The team builds scalable applications and APIs supporting the Moody's Ratings process, including financial analytical tools and AI-driven applications. The role covers full-stack development of web applications, backend services, data services and deployment configurations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver secure, scalable software for financial projection workflows used by analysts and business stakeholders.
• Build user-facing workflows for Ratings analytical applications.
• Develop and enhance backend services using Java, Spring Boot, GraphQL, REST APIs, reactive programming, caching, messaging and secure integration patterns.
• Build and maintain front-end functionality using Angular, TypeScript, reactive programming, data grids, spreadsheet components and Excel-compatible workflows.
• Own technical delivery from design through production release, including implementation, testing, code review, documentation, deployment readiness and post-release support.
• Improve reliability, performance, observability and maintainability by analyzing production behavior, resolving defects, improving test coverage and addressing technical debt.
• Work independently with product owners, analysts, quality engineers, architects and platform teams, mentoring team members and influencing engineering practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience integrating distributed systems using service APIs, event-driven patterns, caching, secure service-to-service communication and contract-driven development.
• Proven ability to implement AI-powered solutions, with a growing awareness of AI risk management and responsible AI use.

Required skills

• Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, GraphQL APIs and reactive programming.
• Relational databases, SQL, PostgreSQL, schema design, data modeling, migrations and data-access patterns.
• Cloud-native practices: containers, Kubernetes, Helm, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, API gateways and environment configuration.
• Troubleshooting with logs, metrics, traces, dashboards and performance analysis.
• Preferred: Angular, TypeScript, RxJS, front-end development and scripting/automation with Python.

What we offer

• Anticipated base salary range of $116,500 to $169,000 for US-based roles, depending on experience, education, level, skills and location.
