Senior Software Engineer - Developer Experience

About the role

Hivemind, part of Shield AI, is looking for an experienced Senior or Staff Software Engineer to join its Developer Experience Engineering team. The team owns the tools, platforms and practices that shape how engineers build software, including local development environments, devcontainers, an internal developer platform, project templates and approaches to co-development and inner-source collaboration. The role is hands-on and focuses on making development faster, more consistent and more reliable, with a near-term focus on bringing agentic AI capabilities into developer tools and workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate tools and platforms that improve the end-to-end developer experience.
• Advance local development workflows, devcontainers, internal developer platforms, project templates and other reusable engineering capabilities.
• Introduce agentic AI into developer tools and workflows, turning promising ideas into practical solutions.
• Partner with engineering teams to understand developer needs, identify friction and create solutions that improve productivity.
• Enable co-development and inner-source collaboration through tooling, documentation, standards and contribution practices.
• Drive adoption of developer tools through close collaboration with engineers, feedback and clear communication of value.
• Own solutions through discovery, design, implementation, testing, deployment, operation and continuous improvement.
• Use DORA metrics, developer feedback and adoption data to guide priorities and measure outcomes.
• Contribute to technical direction through design reviews, architectural decisions and trade-offs; at Staff level, lead cross-team initiatives and set longer-term technical direction.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrated technical judgment in designing and operating developer tools, platforms, backend services, APIs, distributed systems or related production software.
• Experience owning software from design through deployment, operation, adoption and continuous improvement.
• Systems thinking and strong customer orientation toward internal developers.
• Effective collaboration and communication across engineering teams and stakeholders, and the ability to advocate for new tools and practices.

Required skills

• AWS and cloud-native development practices.
• Git, GitLab, Backstage or similar developer-platform technologies.
• Preferred: experience with internal developer platforms, devcontainers, inner-source development, and languages such as Python, Go, JavaScript or TypeScript/Node.js.
