Senior Software Engineer (APIM & Gateway)

About the role

Gravitee is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build the product experiences and APIs behind them, turning operational data into clear visualizations and helping customers configure and govern APIs and AI agents. As Gravitee expands its AI Agent Management capabilities, you will help build interfaces for configuring AI Gateways, governing MCP and agent-to-agent interactions, discovering tools and agents, and monitoring agentic systems in production. This is a hands-on, full-stack role moving between frontend, backend APIs, data models and technical design.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver features end to end, from technical design through implementation, testing, release and iteration.
• Build and maintain Gravitee API Management features across the gateway runtime, management API and console, including the move to Gamma.
• Work on API security (OAuth2, JWT, API keys, mTLS), rate limiting, quotas, CORS and policy/plugin chains.
• Develop Java-based APIs and services using asynchronous, non-blocking patterns (Vert.x/RxJava with backpressure).
• Build responsive interfaces and data visualizations with TypeScript and Angular, including observability views over Elasticsearch/OpenSearch logs and metrics.
• Help customers configure and observe AI-related capabilities such as AI Gateways, MCP tools and servers, agent identity and agent-to-agent interactions.
• Model and transform operational data so platform behavior is understandable and actionable.
• Own US-hours Level 3 and Level 4 escalations for APIM customers as part of the L3 pager duty rotation.
• Use LLMs and AI-assisted tools for prototyping, testing and debugging, and write meaningful automated tests.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers and technical leaders, including the APIM team in Europe and India.

Required profile

• 5+ years building and running production backend software on a team that ships and supports its own product, with personally resolved production incidents.
• Strong Java experience and maintainable REST APIs, with Maven and a reactive stack such as Vert.x/RxJava with backpressure.
• Working knowledge of API gateway and reverse-proxy architecture, and API security fundamentals (OAuth2, JWT, API keys, mTLS, rate limiting, quotas, CORS).
• Experience with persistent data stores (MongoDB or relational databases) and search/analytics technologies (Elasticsearch or OpenSearch).
• Git workflow, code review and automated testing; hands-on use of LLMs or AI coding assistants with judgment to review their output.
• Clear communication, collaborative problem solving and the ability to take ambiguous problems to production.

Required skills

• Strong TypeScript and modern frontend development with a component-based framework (Angular preferred).
• Desired: API gateway, proxy or service-mesh vendor experience (Kong, Apigee, MuleSoft, Tyk, Traefik, WSO2); Kubernetes operators, CRDs, OpenAPI, service mesh or Envoy.
• Desired: Docker, Kubernetes, cloud-native delivery, MCP, Agent2Agent, tool calling, LLM proxies, RAG systems and agentic workflows.
