Senior SEO Specialist

About the role

The University of Rochester seeks a Senior SEO Specialist to lead search engine optimization across the Medical Center and its affiliated digital properties. You will shape discoverability, trust, and performance of content in an evolving search landscape that includes AI‑driven results and zero‑click experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the designated SEO authority, establishing standards and guiding prioritization for all digital assets.
• Develop, execute, and measure SEO strategies for core and affiliate websites, ensuring content is discoverable and credible.
• Integrate modern SEO and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) best practices—on‑page, off‑page, and technical—into content creation, design, and site architecture.
• Build and maintain topic clusters and pillar pages to strengthen topical authority.
• Partner with performance marketing, digital content, social marketing, and central communications teams to align organic and paid strategies for maximum ROI.
• Collaborate with design, development, and IT teams to keep SEO at the forefront of web strategy while maintaining accuracy and trust.
• Co‑lead evaluation, selection, and ongoing optimization of SEO tools and platforms in partnership with Analytics and IT.

Required profile

• Proven expertise in SEO strategy and implementation for large, complex web environments.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to translate data into actionable insights.
• Experience working cross‑functionally with marketing, content, design, development, and IT teams.
