Senior Ruby Developer

About the role

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Senior Ruby Developer to design, build, and maintain production‑grade APIs that connect internal systems with external and third‑party services. This fully remote position allows you to work from anywhere in the United States while collaborating with technical leads, engineering crews, and API architects.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and document REST and GraphQL APIs, including specifications, endpoints, and data models.
• Build and maintain high‑performance Ruby on Rails services in a production environment.
• Participate in code reviews, enforce code quality, security, and maintainability standards.
• Integrate APIs with internal applications, external partners, and third‑party platforms.
• Use AI‑enabled development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize API performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Manage API versioning, backward compatibility, and on‑call Tier 1/2 support.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional Ruby on Rails development experience.
• Strong background designing, building, and maintaining APIs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
