Senior Research Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Research Engineer at 3M, you will collaborate with innovative colleagues worldwide to advance fluid flow and heat‑transfer understanding across material handling, energy transport, and product processes. The role offers a pathway to transition from private, public, government, or military experience into a 3M career.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models to improve product and process performance.
• Collaborate with application engineers, scientists, and process engineers on multiphysics modeling and simulation for next‑generation products.
• Develop and validate CFD models that help formulators identify optimal design spaces and process improvements.
• Support simulation engagements with customers and contribute to intellectual‑property analysis and development.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• At least three years of experience in a relevant engineering or scientific environment.
• Minimum three years of hands‑on experience with computational fluid dynamics.

Required skills

• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling.
• Python or another programming language.
• High‑Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
• Integration of Machine Learning (ML) or Artificial Intelligence (AI) with CFD models.
• Fluid‑Structure Interaction (FSI) and reduced‑order modeling.
