Senior Research Associate – Transmission Electron Microscopy

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth department of The Miami Project is seeking a full‑time Sr. Research Associate 1 to support laboratory‑based research. The role focuses on specialized and complex experiments in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and includes training and mentoring of staff, students, and junior associates.

Key responsibilities

• Perform specialized TEM experiments, including sample preparation, resin‑embedding, ultramicrotome sectioning, and grid staining.
• Operate and maintain two JEOL JEM‑1400 transmission electron microscopes and related equipment.
• Acquire and deliver TEM images to users, and assist users in independent microscope operation.
• Conduct immunogold staining, load nanoparticles and extracellular vesicles onto grids, and ensure quality and safety compliance.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, coordinate repairs, and update protocols and documentation.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Preference for 3 + years of experience in TEM and histology; CEMT certification preferred.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment.

Required skills

• Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) operation.
• Ultramicrotome handling and sample sectioning.
• JEOL JEM‑1400 electron microscope expertise.
• Immunogold staining and nanoparticle/vesicle grid preparation.
• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
