Senior Quantum Engineer, Hybrid Interconnect

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Senior Quantum Engineer to pioneer hybrid interconnect technologies that enable scalable, modular quantum systems. The role focuses on developing novel devices, materials, and integration processes that bridge different quantum modalities.

Key responsibilities

• Pathfind and develop hybrid quantum interconnect technologies for scalable quantum architectures.
• Design, fabricate, and characterize devices for quantum transduction, single‑photon detection, quantum memory, and solid‑state qubit‑to‑photon interfaces.
• Translate system requirements into device, material, and process specifications and optimize fabrication workflows involving superconducting, photonic, and semiconductor materials.
• Perform electrical, optical, microwave, and cryogenic testing, analyze performance, and troubleshoot integration challenges.
• Collaborate across quantum physics, photonics, superconducting devices, materials, process engineering, packaging, and system engineering.

Required profile

• Strong background in quantum devices and interfaces with expertise in one or more areas such as quantum transduction, single‑photon detection, quantum memory, or solid‑state qubit interfaces.
• Experience in device design, semiconductor fabrication, and characterization of quantum hardware.
• Ability to translate system‑level requirements into detailed device and process specifications.
